TRENDBARK/DESIGN ATLAS | Interior Trend Directions 2027-28

DESIGN ATLAS | Interior Trend Directions 2027-28

an Annual design foresight reference in 21 structured design directions for 2027–28.

DESIGN ATLAS gives a filtered and curated foresight on interiors and design for the next two years through a collection of 21 trend themes, each one developed through style references, CMF, color maps, and design references, and built from a mapping of macro trends and mindsets.

In this way, DESIGN ATLAS becomes an exhaustive toolkit to refer to throughout the year: to understand the dynamics behind market changes, to stay updated with upcoming aesthetics, and to get reference and active inspiration when working on projects, product design, storytelling, or campaigns.

DESIGN ATLAS is created from my yearly work of curation, filtering, and trend spotting, translating aesthetic change into something structured and usable. The scope is to provide clarity and a new way of seeing, helping you understand the patterns behind market change and behind what people respond to.

It is filtered through my own taste and professional experience of more than 15 years in architectural practice and design communication, to provide what is truly feasible and relevant within the sea of trends and directions we encounter online and onsite.

Range & Relevance

Although it is filtered through my personal perspective, the 21 Trend Directions provide an exhaustive range of aesthetic possibilities, giving space to very different directions: from the most maximalist to the most minimalist, from those drawn to heritage to new ways of envisioning the future. I am confident that within DESIGN ATLAS you will find directions that resonate with your own taste, your brand direction, or your way of working, while making them more relevant and powerful for the years to come.

There are countless ways you can use DESIGN ATLAS as a real tool to take your work to the next level. With the Atlas, you will explore new interpretations of sustainability, understand how to embrace the analog resurgence in a way that resonates with the future rather than nostalgia, see how heritage can connect meaningfully with contemporary work, you will gain perspectives that extend beyond the Western lens, traveling across Asia and Africa, discover material references and innovations, observe how certain styles are returning and how others are transforming...

And this is only a small glimpse of what you will find inside.

Beyond surface trends

If you have been following me and TRENDBARK for some time, you already know that my approach goes beyond surface-level marketing cycles. I read trends as interconnected cultural and aesthetic evolutions that inform design decisions and strategic positioning. I do not believe in “trends from zero” or novelty for its own sake. Especially in spatial design, our responsibility is to create work that lasts: work with meaning, not hype.

If you purchased a previous Atlas, you will recognize how this edition builds upon and evolves those foundations. And if this is your first one, you are entering a system designed to stand on its own while remaining part of a broader, long-term vision.

Here, you are not buying a list of trends. You are accessing a structured way of seeing. DESIGN ATLAS reorganizes complexity, translating aesthetic signals, cultural movements, and material evolutions into a coherent framework you can actually work with. This is a curated perspective built through field research, design observation, and continuous pattern analysis.

How You Can Use DESIGN ATLAS in practice

-

For Studios

Your work is designing spaces. Creativity and taste are central to what you do. You have instinct, references, visual awareness. You observe, you travel, you research. So what strengthens that instinct?

The ATLAS is a structured toolkit for the next two years. It maps how aesthetics evolve, their cultural relevance, and the CMF logic that supports them, articulated through language you can confidently use when presenting and defending your choices.

With it, you can for instance: • Choose palettes and materials with coherence and long-term durability • Approach client meetings with a clear aesthetic direction • Elevate concepts into frameworks that translate into concrete decisions • Avoid aesthetic choices that age prematurely • Work within a broader, consistent design logic

As I see it, trends are tools: to align materials, finishes, colors, atmosphere, and narrative into a coherent design language. And once you understand a trend, you also understand how to challenge and disrupt it. DESIGN ATLAS becomes a working reference you return to throughout the year. It sharpens decisions. It reduces second-guessing. It provides a solid foundation before you enter a client conversation.

The result is fewer revisions, fewer aesthetic detours, and projects you can stand behind years later. You can also move between directions, cross-matching them to refine your own language and elevate your projects. This is an approach I encourage among TRENDBARK members working with the Atlas.

How You Can Use DESIGN ATLAS in practice

For Brands

DESIGN ATLAS can be integrated directly into your workflow. It serves as a structured reference that reduces research time and supports informed decision-making. It helps navigate more fundamental questions: what is truly consolidating beneath the surface of visibility, where to position yourself within a dense and overlapping aesthetic landscape, and how to move from scattered references to a coherent direction. In a saturated visual field, the challenge is no longer access to information, but selection and alignment.

Beyond direction, the Atlas can inform material updates and finish refinements, offering ways to refresh existing products without redesigning from scratch. It can also guide styling and presentation strategies for exhibitions and launches. DESIGN ATLAS reduces uncertainty at the source. It provides a structured framework, replacing reactive revisions and endless debate with informed alignment.

Working in teams within a company is different from working alone. Often, time is lost in aligning perspectives, transferring information, and reaching consensus.

With DESIGN ATLAS, your team gains a shared reference to • Define a clear CMF direction for your next collection • Align product, design, and marketing through coherent naming, storytelling, and campaign aesthetics • Differentiate without weakening brand DNA • Select materials and finishes that reinforce positioning (premium, approachable, technical, emotional) • Identify themes and narratives that are culturally relevant and strategically durable • Access external cultural signals your internal team may not yet be reading • Replace fragmented inputs with one structured reference system • Reduce time lost navigating repetitive or low-value trend noise • Gain strategic clarity within a saturated visual landscape.

And yes, at the end ( why not ) - it will give a reply to this "simple" question: what will be in and what will be out in the next two years?
